  • This seven-level course boasts a new starter level for complete beginners.
  • Each unit presents a different country around the world, which is used as a realistic context for introducing new language and learning about culture. The country focus enhances cross-cultural awareness through extensive personalization, and is developed through non-fiction reading. A related cross-curricular objective is explored in the Teacher's Edition.
  • The unique Unit Openers introducing each country and topic are highly visual, with emotionally engaging photos. Instructions are provided in the Teacher's Edition for how to expand these openers into a full lesson.
  • Culture Videos in the Student's DVD-ROM and Interactive Classroom extend children's knowledge of other countries and cultures, while reinforcing the language learned.
  • An entire lesson in each unit is dedicated to phonics (in levels 1-4), accompanied by a reading lesson which recycles target sounds, in order to help pronunciation and spelling. Animated Phonics Presentations in the Interactive Classroom support the Phonics lessons.
  • Values are illustrated through fictional stories in every unit, and followed up with self-assessment reflection tasks. Additional discussion points are found in the Teacher's Edition and project activities in the Workbook.
  • Competency development is clearly signposted in the Student's Book, and reinforced in the Teacher's Edition with an explanation of how the specific competency is being developed, to help teachers implement and evaluate competencies effectively in the classroom.
  • The Interactive Classroom includes projectable, interactive Student's Books and Workbooks, with embedded audio, videos and answer keys.
  • There is a dedicated Next Move website, which includes a Test Builder with course-specific material for every level, and prewritten tests.
The Stop & Think feature assists personalization by encouraging children to think about the world around them and relate it to themselves.
Language learning is supported in each unit by introducing a different country around the world. This is then used as a realistic context for learning about culture, new language, and recycling language.
The Country Quiz in levels 5-6 promotes use of general knowledge as well as visual literacy.
Every Student’s Book page indicates a corresponding Workbook page with activities to support the language or skills.
New grammar is presented in a fun scene with the course characters, and is followed with practice activities that consolidate and activate grammar use. The Grammar feature highlights the new grammar structures.
Discover Grammar adds an inductive stage to the lesson, encouraging children to work independently to discover the grammar rule for themselves before moving on to further practice.
Children are directed to the Grammar Guide at the back of the Student’s Book where they find further guidance and practice of the key grammar points in each unit.
The Grammar File symbol indicates where there are drill-style exercises to consolidate the grammar, from the Grammar Resource Pack on the Teacher’s Website.
The competency development activities (indicated by icons) encourage children to work with their own insights in order to develop their ability to practice skills, knowledge, and values in an integrated manner.
Writing development is an important part of the course in Level 5-6. The sub-skills being practiced are clearly indicated.
The Writing File symbol (in levels 5-6) indicates where there are printable templates to help children with the activity, in the Language, Presentation and Writing section on the Teacher’s Website.
The Next Move course continues the country theme with catchy, lively World Music songs, which recycle language in a musical genre relating to the unit country. A karaoke version for children to sing and practice at home is included in the Student’s DVD-ROM.
Lesson 7 is the Let’s Visit... page, a distinctive feature of Next Move that takes children to a new location every unit. Non-fiction reading is the principal focus, bringing a relevant and accessible aspect of the world into the child’s life, through both new and recycled language.
The Think Twice feature presents children with both concrete and critical thinking tasks from the Let’s Visit… text.
Lesson 8 is dedicated to developing presentation skills, and awareness of the child’s country and culture within a wider world context. The activities frequently draw on something related to the child’s own environment, which increases their awareness of how different people live around the world and promotes societal understanding.
Progress Check is a structured review lesson that provides flexibility for teachers who either need more material in their program, or whose classes need more controlled language practice.
My Progress gives children a chance to reflect on what they’ve learned about language and the unit country.
